Petanque New Zealand

P O Box 31127

Lower Hutt

Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to express my concern to see once again, what appears to be a hidden agenda within the management of Petanque New Zealand.

When the Women’s team for the world champs was announced we were told the team would be Laurel Priestley, Sharon Cannon and Barbara Johnston.

Why is it then, that on entering the official world champs web site to look at results, I see a fourth member of the team, Liz Rocks.

I don’t actually mind who is in the team, but why couldn’t PNZ be up front from the beginning and tell us there would be a fourth member. It is these things that are increasing the mistrust that is growing towards our executive.

Do you actually know how unhappy people are with the way that PNZ is being managed. It is a shame that people are not more vocal in expressing their concerns. Emails are flicking back and forth, comments put in blogs and little meetings being held (one was held during the recent WPA singles).

All we ask is that you are up front and honest.

Other concerns are:

The reasons given as to why our best shooter in the World champs teams was not used in the shooting competition. The reason given, that the best shooter was not to be used in case he did not do well and lost his confidence for the main tournament is rubbish. If they are that sensitive, they shouldn’t be in the team. And to be told that Ian and Christian didn’t want to do it is unacceptable. This is not how we would expect our world cup players to perform.

To be told that the Singapore teams did not want a Manager. This is not true. Members of the teams I have spoken to tell me that they were never asked. I went to Singapore as a supporter and could easily have managed the team – if I had been asked, and it was known that I was going. The whole way the Singapore "excursion" was executed, was very poor on PNZ's part.

The attitude amongst many of your members is "cant be bothered doing anything about it, because they will still do what they like anyhow"

Well, that does not wash with me and I want honest upfront answers. I have already suggested a vote of no confidence in the executive and I will pursue this if we cannot get satisfactory answers to these points. It is time for you to listen!!

Yours Sincerely,

Graeme Burnard.

PNZ acknowledgement of letter:

"Dear Graeme,

As acting secretary I have received your letter of complaint regarding the selection of a fourth female player at the world championships and other general complaints about the perceived lack of transparency in PNZ.

The decision on the 4th team member was apparently made in France and was not PNZ approved and will need clarification when those involved return.

PNZ take these matters of complaints by affiliated members seriously and I will attach a copy of your letter as an agenda item for discussion at the next Executive and Council meeting in November. I can assure you that this matter will be duly dealt with by the committee and a prompt response, after this meeting, will be issued to you.

Thank you for expressing your concerns.

Kind Regards,

Joanne Lippard."
