WPA Regional Triples results:

The Windy Hills team of Tony Chin, Ernie Chu and Ants Yee won this great tournament by winning from Michael Lacoste, Bernadette Lawton and Susan Norman.

Has anyone got a photo of the winners?

Congratulations to the winners Tony, Ernie and Ants.

I have lost my playing partner Roger Ball. He will now only play with Andrew Joe and Dean Norman. Graeme Morris has lost his position (taken by Roger) in the Andrew Joe and Dean Norman combination. Quite a bit of Petanque carnage in just one weekend :-)

Looks like there is no photo. Apparently it was all quite a rush "trophies were basically just dished out".

Players leaving early. People know that they may have to stay to the end, before they enter an event - they could win the tournament. They have after all set the time aside. We do see that some top players that lose, are off in a flash. Lorraine and I have always stayed to the end of any event we've been to. It's simply about support and respect for others. Staying to the end is what makes an event (a successful conclusion is so important). Just imagine if everyone who was not a winner on the day packed up and left. Luckily it's only a handful of people who indulge in this kind of unsporting behaviour.

Graeme Morris has offered to reapply for the position in the Andrew Joe and Dean Norman team.

His new grandson is called Benjamin and he was born Friday 16th at 11 pm (ish) weighing in at 8lb 3oz. Congratulations Graeme!!.

Yes it is very sad to see some of the more experienced players leave so early, ie ***** etc. They have to remember that they should give something back to those who have supported them in the past. But I guess that boils down to the type of person that you are or keep company with.

Editor note: have removed name. If you are going to use someone's name, make sure you give your name (sign off). Thanks for your contribution. -Tom.

Hi Tom, thanks for the acknowledgement of our latest grandson, Benjamin. I now have my triples team of grandsons. Watch out for them in about 15 - 20 years time.

I am also reapplying for my position in the team with AJ and Dean. I am currently up-dating my CV to present to them in time for the NZ triples and will do the appropriate grovelling that may be required.

Thanks for stepping in at such short notice Roger - it was much appreciated. Cheers, Graeme

Well done Tony, Ernie and Ants, it was about time you won another tournament.

I see the comments above about players leaving early before the finals.

I also see it was a 2 day tournament with only 18 entries. I personally can't see the reason for this.

Is there a connection between having a 2 day tournament for a small field and players leaving before the end?

How do Wellington players feel about the 2 day format? Is it of benefit to have this tournament over 2 days?

In Auckland, we still have it as a one day tournament, with a similar number of entries.

Thanks Michael, The boys are just rapped to be playing again after such a long break.

I personally would like to see more one day tournaments as a lot of us now have family commitments - which is the main reason that has kept us away from the game. However Im guessing WPA have kept the two day format due to time constraints?.

Michael E is quite right - why was the tournament 2 days with so few entries instead of 1? Anyone care to offer an explanation?

Id much prefer to have played one day and had a day off to relax and do other things.

Congrats Tony, Ernie and Ants. I would just like to point out that we have so many good players at the Kapiti and Park Ave clubs and it's a shame not to see them get some sort of development. Wake up and smell the coffee, there is a reason why the "Aucklanders" are so much more experienced than us, the attitude should be to develop the raw talent that is in front of us, but instead members of Wellington Petanque are too focused on what status they can become in Petanque, it's a real shame.
