Achievements
The Rotorua PetanqueClub has gained the expertise of holding major International tournaments such as the 2005 Oceania. New Zealand won their first ever International tournament from Australia, New Caledonia, Tahiti and Wallis Futuna Islands.
National Doubles, Singles and two Triples tournaments have been held in the picturesque Government Gardens. The 2007 Triples had 42 teams the largest entry for 10 years competeing for the right to represent New Zealand at the World Championships in Thailand.
The pumice surface is unique to New Zealand petanque (read about pumice on this wikipedia page), and from the photos below you can see the depth of water after torrential rain which was pumped out of the terrain the night before the National triples and the subsequent playing surface which withstood two days play without breaking up. Drainage cannot be provided by installing soak holes as the crust underneath once broken could lead to a geyser coming up from the thermal field below.
Rotorua is a great place to visit and the infastructure is in place for anybody to come and stay to enjoy the petanque and the attractions offered.
