Wellington Doubles Championship

Barb and Graeme M won the Wellington doubles championships last month. This is the first time a team from our club has won a Wellington championship title (other than interclub).

That’s all from me I hope you all have a happy Christmas and New Year.

I will hand you over to Graeme to report on the special meeting of the Wellington association (WPA).

Special WPA Meeting

Masterton Petanque Club requested a special meeting of the WPA which was held on Thursday 23rd November.

We requested the meeting to discuss our challenge against Khandallah for the Jaques Cochonnet Trophy which had been put on hold by the President of WPA because of the “perceived” inability of the 2 clubs to come to an agreement over the date on which the challenge should be played. The New Zealand selection process was also put on the agenda for discussion before the NZ council meeting was held on the 25th/26th November. The meeting was well attended by about 22 people from 8 of the 12 Wellington clubs. The meeting was attended by myself, Barb, Graeme B and Tom from our club.

The outcome of the meeting was that we were able to “air” our grievances about the challenge.

Khandallah wanted to know if our intention was for them to hand the trophy to us by default but we were adamant that we wanted to play for it and that by requesting the meeting we were not wanting to win the trophy in this way. We will now challenge for the trophy on 9th December. Lets hope we can bring the trophy home to our place, where it should be.

The “ins and outs” of the meeting are a bit too long to go into in this newsletter. If anyone wants a further explanation please contact me. For background reading click HERE

The other outcome of the meeting was that the majority of Wellington clubs that attended the meeting were in favour of a change to the selection policy for New Zealand teams to a “team based” concept.

Summer Season

This year we are going to try a few changes. A few more fun days. Irish Petanque, Shanghai, maybe a North v South (of Masterton) tournament, or Battle of the Sexes. Let us know if you have any suggestions.

Rule : Displaced Boules

If a stationary boule is moved by the wind or slope of the ground, for example, it is put back in its place. The same applies to any boule accidentally displaced by a player, an Umpire, a spectator, an animal or any moving object.

To avoid any dispute, the players must mark the boules. No claim will be admissible for an unmarked boule, and the Umpire will give a decision only in terms of the position the boules hold on the terrain.

However, if a boule is moved by a boule played in the game it is valid.

Just a bit of advice:

Never sleep with anyone crazier than your self.

Cheerio for now keep warm
